How to get here from Cancun airport

BY RENTAL CAR

(approx. 1 hour) : exit Cancun airport and head for highway 307 south, signposts indicate "Playa del Carmen" and "Tulum". Keep on the highway past Playa del Carmen until you reach kilometer 270, a few hundred yards later there is a right-hand exit (marked "Puerto Aventuras Pueblo "), take the exit and at the roundabout do a left-hand U-turn under the flyover (heading back towards Playa del Carmen). After 50 yards turn right into Puerto Aventuras (just past a Pemex gas station). Then follow the map below to reach Cave Heaven.

Some driving tips ....

- Turning

Before making any turn in Mexico ALWAYS look both ways to check for traffic. Beware when turning left from the highway. If there is a special lane provided do as you normally would but look behind making sure traffic is clear before you turn. Someone may try to pass you. At other times, when making a left hand turn from the highway in more obscure locations, ALWAYS check your rear view mirror first! It is customary to pull off the road to your right, put your left blinker or emergency flashers on and wait for traffic to clear. With no one else in either direction make your left turn.

- Passing

When traveling on the highway be alert and vigilant for aggressive drivers. Let tailgaters pass. Drivers in the on-coming lane may choose to pass and cross the centerline of the highway at unexpected times. Be ready to move right.

- Median dividers

At Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen there are cement medians that divide the highway. These are marked by reflectors in the road. Please be careful not to hit them.

BY CHAUFFEUR-DRIVEN CAR

We can arrange a private limo service to pick you up in front of your arrival terminal, the driver will be holding a sign for you. This is recommended for early morning and late night arrivals, when the bus service is not operating, since the taxis often hike up their rates in the knowledge that you have few available options.

BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT AND/OR TAXI

By public transport (approx. 1.5 hours): upon arrival at your terminal, ask for the ADO bus to Playa del Carmen. These air-conditioned buses leave the airport at regular intervals, bound for the Playa del Carmen downtown bus station (approx. cost USD 8).

There is a taxi rank just outside the bus station, where you can catch a ride to Puerto Aventuras for approx. USD 16.

If you wish to take a "colectivo" (air-conditioned van) from Playa del Carmen, walk to calle 2 between avenida 15 and 20 (about a five minute walk), where you can catch a ride to Puerto Aventuras for approx. USD 2.

Entering Puerto Aventuras.

Stop at the gate, wave at the security person. If they don’t wave you on roll down your window and tell them you are staying at Torre Esmeralda. Generally they only stop large trucks and buses for security reasons. Follow the main road down to the first circle. Bear to the left. Shortly ahead you will see the marina on the right. Continue bearing to your left until you reach Bahia Akumal. Follow Bahia Akumal to Bahia Xaac which will be the first street on your left. Turn left onto Bahia Xaac and follow the street all the way to the end. You will approach and archway with the words “Punta Aventuras” on the top. Go through the archway and enter on the right side of the gate. You are here! See the maps below for a graphical view of your route. The route to follow is highlighted in yellow.

If you are staying at one of the hotels, you will probably have been taken by the hotel bus directly from the airport, otherwise consult the map ("Dreams" hotel is marked "Sunscape", its former name, while the Omni is Punta Celis, within the red square in the heart of the marina).
